Adoption Drama Diet Plan
October 1, 2008
I was looking for a way to drop the approximately 10 lbs I have put on in the last year and I think I’ve found it. It’s called the “Adoption Drama Diet Plan”. Basically you just get so much drama going on in your adoption that your stomach is in knots and you spend all day on the phone and so you have no appetite and no time to eat.
Sound like a good plan??
To make a very long (and dramatic) story short, we confirmed on Tuesday morning that our papers were definitely NOT delivered to our adoption agency.
I should take a minute to explain that our adoption is a little weird. Most people just have one agency we work with. We have two. One is AWOP (or African Widows and Orphans Project). They are more of an NGO in Ethiopia and are NOT a licensed adoption agency. They are how God chose to bring us to our kids. They, at the time, were partnered with Hope Adoption Agency so Hope is the agency that handles all our paperwork, represents us in court, etc.
I will admit that I was FIRED UP! I placed a call to AWOP and spewed all my frustrations on one of the woman there who has been nothing but wonderful to us. (I later apologized for her having to take the brunt of my frustrations.) So basically 6 hours of back and forth phone calls, some tears and many heartfelt and desperate prayers to God were spent yesterday.
Thankfully today I feel that we have made some progress. Praise God that right now AWOP has an American over in ET right that they have been able to get on top of our case and try to figure out what is going on. And he is doing the one thing that has been missing all along – COMMUNICATING!! Several emails back and forth and while there are still some questions about different aspects I feel more confident that progress is being made.
We have now been told that our papers should be ready to file in 2-3 days. We shall see – fortunately our God already DOES see and so hopefully I can relax a little bit…and eat some of the birthday cake tomorrow night for my 9 year old
P.S. Yes, the Ethiopian courts are back open so the chase is on!

Oh, Julie! Our court date is tomorrow so I understand about your stomach being in knots! I told our daughter, 12, that tomorrow I am going to get on the treadmill and just walk until I get the call! I’ll get rid of my nervous energy and lose 10 or 20 pounds. HA!
Hi Julie – I am the other Julie on the AWOP board. I love checking the blogs of fellow AWOP families. Your post just cracked me up. I am the same way (tho’ thank God, I need to lose some weight!!). I can’t drag myself away from the computer!
I will be praying for you and your children in Ethiopia. I hope you get very good news soon!! All the best – Julie
I’m glad they are getting it all worked out. I was in shock when you first told me what happened! There is a reason and I know God has a plan. Doesn’t always make it any easier as a Mama, especially for those of us who like to be in control
) Love you!
Too funny girl! It made my heart happy to know the Lord has someone overthere who’s communicating with you. I am confident things will be worked out. We are praying as ever!!!
Julie- I need to lose some weight also but not sure that adoption is the right method for me! I guess I will just have to stick with that darn diet and exercise! Bummer! I am so glad that things are going well and starting to move forward! Can’t wait to hear more soon!
